The very talented students of DPS, GBN band had put in their dedicated efforts in creating the soulful musical symphony, ‘Taal Kalam’, in the loving memory of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, a great connoisseur of fine arts.
The symphony was aptly named ‘Taal Kalam’, because of the rhythmic cycle or ‘Taal’, created on a unique meter of 6 ¾ (six and three quarters) which has not been used so far by any musician. It is based on one of Dr. Kalam’s favourite Ragas – Raga Charukeshi.
The 12-minute musical piece was solely prepared and performed by the students of classes VI – X, under the able guidance of their music teachers.
The Principal of Mohamed Sathak Engineering College, Ramanathapuram, where Dr. Kalam studied as a student, was very impressed and fascinated by the composition. He requested for the symphony to be played in the college, in the morning every day.
